Folks have asked us why we are
working to build a multi-purpose youth
sports facilities when the new Alpine
Highschool is scheduled to open in
2013? Here's why:
Highschools use their fields 6 days a
week for their student athletes.
Meanwhile children who have not yet reached
high school continue to want
to play sports and believe it or not, Alpine is the
only major unincorporated area of
San Diego County that does not have a youth sports facility.
Our Little league with close to 350 players and our AYSO with
around 600 players have to share the same fields at the
elementary and middle school. Because of season overlaps,
neither sport has the same advantage as teams outside of our
area because their practice and playing seasons are
shortened to to a lack of fields. It should also be noted that
the existing fields are full of holes, divots and rocks. Our Pop
Warner football teams can NEVER play here. The have to
travel almost 30 miles roundtrip to play in another city. So
much for our town spirit. Our girls softball league also has to play on substandard fields and our LaCrosse team has no where to play. Our directors at PLAY have always believed that we should keep our kids on the field and out of the malls.
So, what is it we need? Of course financial donations are
incredibly important and we thank each and everyone of you
who place money you can in our donation boxes around town
or send us a check. We also really need land. We are hoping
that someone with 18 to 20 acres will consider either donating
the land to us outright or as mitigation or through a trust.
Another option would be to lease us land at $1 per year and
take the deduction on the market rental value. Please keep
us in mind as the 2009 tax year winds down and continue to
remember us throughout 2010. We thank you and our kids
thank you.

PLAY, Parkland For Apine Youth is working hard to obtain 18 to 20 acres of land within the Alpine Planning District to construct and maintain a multi sport complex for our area youth.
